The Shop - Part 2

Progress!

Over the summer I got the walls painted and the ceiling scraped and primed. The ceilings original paint was peeling and I didn't want to just paint over it, as I figured it wouldn't stick well to the stuff coming off. To do the scraping work everything in the garage was moved from one side of the garage to the other with a plastic sheet providing a clean space and a work space.

First one side then the other.

Review - Fisher Space Pen

I love things that are well designed, made to last, and feel good just picking them up. A year or so ago I bought a silver 'Bullet' style Fisher Space pen. I didn't know much about them other than what the package said. It was designed for use in space, it can write upside down and under water, and.. well - it pretty much had me there.

The Shop

Last year, with the basement 'shop' nearing capacity, a move was made to a residence that happened to come with a 2 car garage. Worrying about re-naming this blog wasn't enough for the new garage to win out over the basement as the new 'shop'. Though it needs some work..

It actually got worse than this.

Me 3D - Part 1

My local Mini-Maker Fair is fast approaching and I have been looking for something to contribute. A few weeks ago I discovered a company out of the UK that can capture instant full body 3D scans of people - Infinite Realities. I was instantly fascinated with the idea, the only 3D scanning I have seen (and participated in) has been a slow clumsy affair that involved holding very still and spinning around in a circle.

Captured with an Xbox connect printed on a makerbot
For the Maker Fair I want to build an instant 3D scanning rig to 3D scan the masses! Not having $100,000 to drop on 115 DSRLs I want to utilize a cheaper camera system - my friend the Raspberry Pi.

Wide Angle Recordings LED Stage Lighting

After landing a gig at the Museum of Nature (for the Nature Noctune series) my brother, and founder of Wide Angle Recordings, became my first customer and commissioned an LED lighting rig. Like most LED lights for DJ we decided it should be bright, colourful and have some pre-programmed patterns that could be controlled by the DJ. Unlike most LED lights we wanted to build something that could be finely tuned by the DJ.

Halloween 2013

Every since I was a kid I was more interested in handing out candy then I was in trick-or-treating. This wasn't for the act of kindness reasons but rather so I could build something scary and fun for neighborhood, plus when handing out candy you can always eat as much as you want.
